  3. Press two-thirds of the crust mixture into the greased pan. Bake for 10 minutes.
  4. Melt additional butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and cook for about one minute.
  5. Gradually add milk and vanilla extract. Stir in flour until thickened, about 3 minutes.
  6. Pour the caramel filling over the cooled crust, spreading it evenly.
  7. Sprinkle the reserved crust mixture over the caramel filling.
  8. Reduce oven temperature to 300°F (150°C). Bake for an additional 20 minutes.
  9. Cool completely before slicing into squares.
