Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare the Meatballs: In a large mixing bowl, combine your choice of ground meat with finely grated onion, minced garlic, a beaten egg, breadcrumbs, milk, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Mix gently until just combined, then form into rounds about the size of golf balls and set aside.
  2. Brown the Meatballs: Heat a large skillet over medium heat with a drizzle of olive oil. Add the meatballs in a single layer and sear for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown on all sides.
  3. Prepare the Potatoes: Peel and thinly slice the potatoes. Toss with olive oil, paprika, salt, and pepper until well-coated.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a greased baking dish, layer half of the potatoes, then the browned meatballs, followed by half of the cheese. Repeat with remaining potatoes and cheese, finishing with a splash of milk or cream.
  5. Bake: Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until cheese is golden.
  6. Serve: Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before garnishing with fresh parsley.
