Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • 8x8 inch baking pan
  • wire rack

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare an 8x8-inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, light brown sugar, and a pinch of salt. Add melted salted butter and pure vanilla extract, stirring until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press two-thirds of the crumb mixture evenly into the bottom of the pan and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  3. While the crust is baking, wash and slice fresh strawberries. Toss them with a bit of granulated sugar and flour in a bowl. Once the crust is out, layer the strawberry mixture evenly over it.
  4. Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the strawberry layer evenly.
  5. Return the baking pan to the oven and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes, until the top is set and golden with bubbly juiciness.
  6. Allow the bars to cool completely on a wire rack for about an hour.
  7. In a medium bowl, whisk powdered sugar, heavy or light cream, and a splash of pure vanilla extract until smooth.
  8. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bars and cut into 12 squares for serving.
